Caledonia Magazine

Caledonia Magazine, Scott House Publishing Ltd

SITE construction based on proposals prepared by this consultancy in December 2001 later working to a visual brief by Caledonia magazine. A site was developed that was visually consistent with the latest version of the printed magazine.

This consultancy developed the basic brief not only to incorporate the desired look and feel but also the latest practical standards and recommendations regarding usability and functionality for screen based design.

This includes the information hierarchy, specifications for the interface, screen resizing, coding, CSS, loading, cross browser and platform compatibility, all objects and the architecture for a site which can be updated monthly as well as added to on a modular basis. Also the Netbanx transaction system, updated to allow the purchase of subscriptions, current issues (this was not possible before) and available back issues, from the UK or overseas.

Work began on the site in mid January 2002, it was first launched on 20 March 2002 and this consultancy carried out monthly site updates until July 2002

The success of the interface and overall specification may be gauged by the fact that online sales have been up as much as 400% in some months since the new site was launched. It is my belief that the site has a tremendous untapped online sales potential.

Spain Magazine

Spain Magazine, the Media Company Publications Ltd

ONE of two sites made for this new publishing company in Edinburgh early in 2002.

This consultancy developed a verbal brief to come up with proposals for a basic site, at very short notice, that would be available to users on the launch of the hard copy magazine in late January or early February 2002.

Though initially interested in a more extensive web site, the magazine production team was only able to support content for three pages of web based advertorial online.

With access to a limited amount of copy and content from the hard copy magazine before the first issue went to print, work began on the website in mid January 2002 and it was first launched on Wed, 23 January, 2002.

This consultancy then ceased to work on the site at that date and subsequent content updates as well as all changes to the original site since then have been carried out by 'enthusiastic' in-house staff.

First Time Buyer Magazine Version 2

First Time Buyer Magazine, the Media Company Publications LTD

SHORTLY after the launch of the first issue of the magazine, a new in-house magazine layout designer was appointed, the magazine was subsequently redesigned.

This consultancy then came up with a second version of website at the first update for issue 2, to reflect the changes and maintain a consistent look and feel with the latest printed version.

First Time Buyer Magazine Version 1

First Time Buyer Magazine, the Media Company Publications LTD

THE very first site developed for Sue Hitchen Publisher, the Media Company Publications Ltd.

Sue asked this consultancy to develop websites to support the launch of two magazines earlier this year and we were pleased to advise her on hosting, domain names, domain name transfer, web stats and develop two sites for her of which this one was the first.

The First Time Buyer Magazine site was primarily designed to lend credibility to the new company online, give an insight into the current issue and facilitate enquiries from those interested in subscribing or obtaining a free sample copy.

The website was initially developed from such artwork, 'logos' and objects as were available from the freelance graphic designer who originated issue 1; last minute access to a copy of the first magazine before launch was also extremely useful.

It took only about 8 days from our initial discussions to the launch of the first version of the website! How's that for service. Phase II development of the site should have seen the addition of a simple subscription and online purchase option.
